An introduction to the Think.com learning platform |
Think.com is a password protected, teacher monitored learning platform. It is provided by the Oracle Education Foundation and was designed to help teachers and students integrate learning projects into their classroom curriculum. Within this learning environment students can create pages with text, pictures, multimedia, votes, brainstorms, debates, and messages. It is also a global community; to participate all a teacher has to do is choose a topic, assign students, invite teachers, and collaborate with members from around the world. In this workshop participants will be introduced to the different parts of the Think.com platform and will have a chance to create their own Think.com Webpage and Project page. There will also be a discussion of the different ways this platform can be used as a communication and collaboration tool, research platform and e-portfolio. At the end time will be allocated for a demonstration of the Global Community and for questions. |

Phil Macoun Nanaimo, BC I am an IB Middle Years Program Technology and Math teacher. Six years ago I was asked to start teaching Technology because I was the only teacher on staff that liked computers. I have been on a steep learning curve ever since. Four years ago I registered my school for Think.com because I wanted a secure online environment within which I could explore digital citizenship issues with my students. I was really impressed with the intuitive nature of this platform and the way it lent itself to project based learning. Two years ago I was invited by Oracle to attend a PBL and Think.com workshop at their head offices and was really amazed at the global nature of this platorm. There are thousands of schools in India using Think.com! Up to now I have not opened up our school account to this global community, but hope to be able to do so in the upcoming school year. Recently I have begun to appreciate the importance of building a robust Personal Learning Network and have begun Blogging and using Twitter as a way to develop and share ideas. pmacoun@aspengroveschool.ca |
