The Read-Write Web: Blogs and Wikis in Education New |
Steve Hargadon believes that the read/write Web will have a greater impact than the advent of the printing press. We will look at the primary tools of the read-write web, blogs and wikis, and their application in education. We'll discuss student safety issues, different approaches that can be taken with teaching students social media tools, and how and where to find help from other educators on these topics. You will also create accounts at free blogging and wiki services to help you get started with each. |

Steve Hargadon If you can be an old hand at the educational uses of new technologies, Steve Hargadon is it! He is Elluminate's Social Learning Consultant, the director of the K12 Open Technologies Initiative at the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), and the founder of the Classroom 2.0 educational network of 30 000 members who use it as a forum to connect, ask questions, and share ideas. A blogger, speaker, and consultant on educational technology, Steve is particularly passionate about Web 2.0, social networking, Free and Open Source Software, computer reuse, and computing for low-income populations. He is the organizer of the EduBloggerCon 'unconferences' -- events held in conjuntion with larger edtech shows but that offer educators using social media and collaborative technologies in their classrooms the opportunity to gather and learn from each other -- and he gives free hands-on workshops called Classroom 2.0 LIVE that focus on uses of Web 2.0 in education. Steve is the Emerging Technologies Chair for NECC (the largest US edtech computing conference), a regular columnist at School Library Journal, and has consulted for PBS, Intel, Ning, and the KnowledgeWorks Foundation on educational technology and more specifically on social networking. His interview series can be found at www.FutureofEducation.com, www.Conversations.net, and www.EdTechLive.com. Steve's latest project is a new social educational network called Learn Central. Sponsored by the folks at Elluminate, his goal is to foster greater global collaboration and conversation in the educational arena. Steve and his wife live in Lincoln, California, and have four children. steve@hargadon.com Website: www.stevehargadon.com |
