Why Social Networking is valuable?  New

Educational Social Networking for Professional Development

Social networking is not just MySpace and Facebook, although these popular services give a good idea of how compelling social networking environments can be for today's students. In this session we will look at the applications of social networking in teacher professional development, in classrooms, and as part of a growing trend toward making greater use of Web 2.0 technologies that can create engaged learning environments. In addition to understanding the pedagogical value of the tools that make up social networking services, we'll examine current examples of professional development networks and evaluate their current and  future potential.  Steve will discuss what social networking software does very well and what it doesn't, what lessons can be learned from existing educational social networks, and then what successful strategies can be used for implementing social networks within professional development environments.
