Podcasting: Participation in Learning

Students often cite boredom, irrelevancy of content, and comprehension difficulties as reasons for their dislike of school.  Low student engagement and motivation to attend class and produce work are often the causes of low class marks and low levels of readiness for exams. The first part of this session will look at how the use of the participatory media, podcasting, can increase students’ engagement, motivation, sense of control over learning and, subsequently, overall achievement in almost any discipline at any level of schooling.  The second part will have attendees participate in a hands-on workshop on podcasting and create their own podcasts.
